Astrobotic engineers have developed a new type of lunar rover, called Peregrin. Its difference from all other types of modules is that it can deliver more cargo to the moon. It is planned to send the lunar rover in the first mission already in early autumn this year.
Yesterday, there was held a presentation of the device attended by the representatives of NASA. The Agency will finance the first mission. As reported by the company, the module is now being built, and the deadlines will not be disrupted.
If everything goes according to the established schedule, the module will be able to deliver several dozens of cargo including the scientific equipment and a rover. It will be used on the surface of the satellite for testing.
As you know, the US is going to build its own lunar base in the next few years. The PRC has similar plans. It also intends to create a base on the moon. The race between countries is becoming increasingly fierce, and any new development in this area can strengthen the position of the country.
Astrobotic indicates that as new funds become more available , they will modify their lunar rover and the company aims to develop a heavier model capable of carrying even more payload on the surface of the Moon.
